Pediatric Dentistry
Pediatric Dentistry at Falcon Dental
A child’s early experiences at the dental office can shape their attitude towards oral health for the rest of their life. At Falcon Dental, we are dedicated to providing gentle, compassionate, and fun dental care for our youngest patients. Pediatric Dentistry is the specialized branch of dentistry focused on the oral health of children from infancy through their teenage years.
We understand that a dental visit can be intimidating for a child (and their parents!). Our entire team is trained to create a safe, welcoming, and positive environment. Our philosophy goes beyond just treating teeth; we aim to build a lasting foundation of trust and empower your child with healthy, lifelong habits.
Why is Specialized Pediatric Care Important?
Children are not just small adults. Their dental needs, developing jaws, and emotional comfort require a unique and patient approach. Our team is experienced in:
- Child Psychology & Behavior: We use proven techniques like “Tell-Show-Do,” where we explain what we are going to do in simple terms, show them the (non-threatening) tools, and then gently perform the action.
- Creating a Kid-Friendly Atmosphere: From our waiting area to our treatment rooms, we strive to make the environment calming and engaging. We use simple, positive language to eliminate fear.
- Managing Developing Teeth: We are experts in caring for primary (baby) teeth. These teeth are crucial for proper chewing, speech development, and holding space for the permanent teeth to erupt correctly.
- Monitoring Growth & Development: We carefully track your child’s jaw and tooth development (orthodontic monitoring) to identify and intercept any potential bite or alignment issues early on.
Our Comprehensive Pediatric Services
We offer a complete range of services designed to protect and restore your child’s smile as they grow:
Preventive Check-ups & Gentle Cleanings
Regular six-month visits allow us to gently clean your child’s teeth and identify any potential issues, like cavities, when they are very small and easy to treat.
Topical Fluoride Treatments
Fluoride is a natural mineral that strengthens tooth enamel and makes it more resistant to decay. This safe, painless treatment is a key part of cavity prevention for children.
Dental Sealants
A sealant is a thin, protective, tooth-colored coating that is “painted” onto the chewing surfaces of back teeth (molars). These teeth have deep grooves that are hard for a child to clean. Sealants act as a “raincoat” for the tooth, sealing out food particles and cavity-causing bacteria. The process is fast and painless with no drilling required.
Restorative Care (Fillings & Crowns)
If a cavity does develop, we use gentle techniques and durable, tooth-colored materials to restore the tooth. For larger cavities on baby teeth, a pediatric crown may be recommended to save the tooth and protect it until it’s ready to fall out naturally.
Orthodontic Monitoring
During every check-up, we evaluate your child’s bite and jaw growth. Early detection of issues like crowding or crossbites can make future orthodontic treatment simpler, shorter, and less invasive.
Oral Hygiene & Diet Education
We believe in teamwork. We partner with parents to provide practical, age-appropriate advice on brushing, flossing, and nutrition to build a great home-care routine that lasts a lifetime.
Emergency Dental Care
Accidents happen, especially with active kids. We are here to provide prompt and compassionate care for dental emergencies, such as a chipped, broken, or knocked-out tooth, or a toothache.
Your Child’s First Dental Visit: The “Happy Visit”
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends scheduling your child’s first dental visit by their first birthday or when their first tooth appears. This initial “happy visit” is designed to be short, positive, and stress-free.
What to expect:
- A warm welcome from our friendly team.
- A brief, gentle “knee-to-knee” exam where your child can sit on your lap.
- We will “count” their teeth and check their gums and bite.
- We will discuss proper home care, teething, and nutritional habits with you.
- Most importantly, it’s a chance for your child to become familiar with our office as a safe and friendly place.
